Europe has the densest night-train network in the world.
On this site: the Caledonian Sleeper from London to Scotland, the Night Riviera from London to Cornwall, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express from Paris to Venice, and European Sleeper’s three routes from Brussels, Amsterdam and Paris to Prague, Berlin and Milan.
Austria’s Nightjet runs a wider network across central Europe.
For luxury, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.
For scenery on a budget, European Sleeper’s Brussels–Milan over the Gotthard, or the Caledonian Sleeper to Fort William across Rannoch Moor.
For a practical city hop, Amsterdam–Berlin or Paris–Berlin overnight.
Not directly; there is no overnight train through the Channel Tunnel.
Take Eurostar to Brussels or Paris in the afternoon and board a European Sleeper the same evening for Berlin, Prague or Milan. European Sleeper →
Only the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, a luxury train running on selected dates from March to November.
For a budget alternative, combine a European Sleeper to Milan with an Italian day train. Orient Express →
Often close, once you count a hotel night saved.
European Sleeper couchettes start at €49.99 to €79.99 one way; the Caledonian Sleeper starts at £54 for a seat.
Luxury trains are a different category entirely.
